Large Human Eyeball

Colour Blind
A colour blindness test using Ishihara's coloured dots pictures.

Ears on Tubes - Stereo Sound
Sounds made in the long tube held to each ear produce a stereo effect.

Hearing Range
How high or low can you hear?

Hot or Cold Hands?
An illusion of touch - touch one hand on hot, the other on cold - then each feels a room-temperature surface to be different temperatures.

Large Human Eyeball
A working model of the optics of the human eye.

Seeing Inside Out
An inside-out building that looks outside-in!

Shape from Movement (computer plore)
A simple but dramatic exhibit which demonstrates how camouflage works best if animals stay still. Our vision has become very sensitive to movement - and as this exhibit shows, when the camouflaged shape moves, the shape suddenly becomes 'visible'.

Touch Chart/Braille Message
How sensitive is your skin? - using this exhibit visitors can test the sensitivity of different parts of their skin using a tactile 'sight chart'. Visitors can also try to read a message written in Braille.

Visual Noise (computer plore)
When the senses send messages to the brain down the nerves, the random noise - like 'static' on a TV broadcast makes it difficult to pick out faint signals such as distant lights in the dark. In this exhibit, 'static noise' is added to a computer display of well-known and not-so-well-known pictures showing how noise can make it difficult to pick out the signal.
